Water Wise
The Wonderful Wicking Bed
Our Sustainability Leaders led a project with the help of supplies from Rumbalara Environment Education Centre, to build 2 wicking beds.
We started with an IBC tank and cut it in half.
We cut some slotted ag pipe and fitted a T join to add an inlet pipe .
We did some heavy work filling
the tank to the halfway mark with
10ml blue gravel.

...and added the outlet attachment for overflow
We filled it with water and topped it with geotextile fabric.
...before adding our growing medium of compost, chicken dirt, and garden soil
added seeds... ...watered them in and we were done!
We top-up the tank once a week through the inlet pipe.
